About us Who we are Our teams Derby Community Parent Programme "Working together to empower people to live their best lives through pregnancy, birth and beyond." What is the Derby Community Parent Programme? Delivered by Ripplez, the Derby Community Parent Programme is a volunteer support programme. We offer expectant and new parents the opportunity to be matched to a specifically suited, highly trained volunteer, to provide specialist pregnancy, labour & birth, and early parenthood support. Our aim is to create independence and positive changes using a strengths based, non-judgemental approach. What do our Volunteers do? Our volunteers (also known as Pregnancy Pals and Birth Buddies) undergo 26 weeks of training from a variety of health professionals, including four sessions of training on the labour ward at the local hospital. This training ensures that volunteers are providing evidence based, up to date information around a whole variety of relevant subjects, including, breastfeeding, keeping fit and well, mental health and wellbeing, smoking cessation and labour & birth. The volunteers then share this information with the parent(s) they support, either one-to-one, at one of our peer group coffee mornings, at local community events, or in certain areas of the Royal Derby Hospital – Antenatal Clinic, Neonatal Ward, The Beeches and Ward 314. What can DCPP do for you? This is proven to be an effective way of engaging hard-to-reach parents and communities. The support is individually tailored and the same volunteer can remain throughout the pregnancy and birth if required, meaning a unique and established relationship is maintained between volunteer and client. The peer supporter has been described by our clients as ‘someone in my corner’.
